Description: North West Coast Canada First Nations Indigenous Art Cedar EAGLE Carving Plaque. William (Billy) Cook Artist Coastal First Nations Indigenous Carving Kwakwaka'wakw William Cook lived in Alert Bay until he was fourteen, when he moved to Victoria. There, he learned to work in metal with Paddy Seaweed and to paint with Francis Dick. William Cook comes from a family of artists: his brother is established Kwakwaka’wakw artist Rande Cook, and his niece is emerging Kwakwaka’wakw artist Jazmine McCrimmon-Cook. His particular Kwakwaka’wakw style reflects these relationships. Cook is primarily a jeweller which he started at the age of 19. He began creating hand carved and painted cedar panels in 2013. The panel in the image is truly unique and unusual. The colours were selected to match the logo and signage of a retail shop. This was commissioned early in William Cook's foray into carved and painted cedar panels. I have 3 different panels all within the same theme - sports - that were created to be the focal point and the centre pieces as mascots or should I say totems in a business. This particular panel is of the Thunderbird (or Eagle) with talons gripping a true football (soccer). Beautifully rendered and executed, this panel is 2' feet x 1' foot and approximately 2" thick. The panel in the photo is the one you will receive. I do have 2 other panels related to this one and they all share the same measurements and colours. The artist has a more traditional panel available online with similar dimensions (a little bigger) and retails for 1400$ If you have any questions or are serious about purchasing all 3, please contact me.
