Wet Basement Sump Failure Water Alarm Kit, Simple to Build 9V Battery Operated

Description: Wet Basement / Sump Failure Water Alarm Kit This is a parts kit - assembly is required! Piezo Alarm Alone is worth the cost of this parts kit DO NOT USE TO DETECT FLAMMABLE LIQUIDS AS THE ELECTRICITY MAY CAUSE FIRE OR EXPLOSION! Enjoy the gratification that comes from building something you can't buy elsewhere! Portable, Runs off a 9V Battery (or any 9V to 12V DC Power Source) 9V Battery Clip included, Battery is not included. Applications: Detect Wet Basements Detect Sump Pump Failure Detect Leaking Hot Water Heater Detect Leaking Laundry or Utility Sinks Detect Rain or Moisture on Window Sill ...Or any place else where you need to be alerted to the presence of water Requires soldering tools and soldering skills, and the ability to read a simple schematic wiring diagram. Included free is a small project board having solder pads with pre-drilled holes for mounting components and assembly. The parts layout is up to you and not at all critical. I suggest you place all parts on the board to establish the layout you want before soldering them in place. Leave room for screw holes on PC board ends if you choose to mount the board to something else. The specific mini project board type you receive will depend on availability, but will be one of the types shown in the second ad photo, or a minor variation of one those types shown. Buyers who purchase more than one of these water alarm parts kits will get to choose the type of mini project board they would like to receive. Email me if you have any questions. Please Note: The components you receive may differ somewhat in size, color, and style from what is shown in the ad photo. But all components will be new and unused (some may be New Old Stock). This project consists of a very simple circuit that can save your home from expensive water damage by alerting you at the first sign of trouble. Assembly Requirements: Since this is just a parts kit, to complete the project, you must be able to identify common electronic components and follow the wiring shown in the included schematic diagram. You must be able to identify common polarity sensitive components and wire them into the circuit with the exact polarity shown in the schematic diagram. You will also need a low wattage soldering iron and a little rosin core solder. Here's a helpful construction Tip: As you complete the wiring of each component, take a highlighter and run it over that part of the schematic. When you get done adding components, there should not be any wiring on the schematic that has not been highlighted. If there is, that means the unhighlighted wiring connections still have need to be made. UPON REQUEST: When I ship your item, I can email you the schematic and the circuit description so you can start planning how you want to construct your own Water Alarm. Just construct the circuit with the parts provided by following the wiring shown in the schematic. Then add your own homemade probes to the unit. You can power the circuit with either a 9 Volt or 12 Volt battery or a 9V or 12V DC Wall Adapter. You can use this circuit to monitor the sump pump hole for a failed sump pump. Or place your homemade probes on the basement floor next to your hot water heater or next to a basement wall where water seeps in during rain storms. Or maybe you just want to place the probes on a window sill to alert you if rain is coming in. To monitor the sump hole, I recommend aluminum probes mounted on an insulator above the sump hole. They should extend down to about an inch above the highest water level in the sump hole when the sump pump is working normally. You can find many aluminum items at Home Depot or Lowes that can be used as the probes. I found some driveway reflectors there having 3 foot long stakes that worked perfectly. But you could just as easily make probes out of small aluminum tubing or aluminum transition edging. For a water sensor that you place on the floor or a window sill, I recommend a small prototype PC board designed to accept Dip IC packages. They have a series of .1 inch spaced parallel pads that are perfect for the job. Just cut a 1 inch piece from it and wire all odd numbered pads together and all even numbered pads together. Using this as your water probes, a drop of water between any two adjacent pads will then activate the alarm. If you're using a 12V power source for the circuit, the piezo alarm can be replaced with a 12V Relay if you choose. Or you can replace the piezo alarm with a series connected LED and 680 ohm current limiting resistor. Add a normally open push-button test switch in parallel with the probes if you like. To Build this project, you do need to be able to wire the very simple circuit from the schematic provided. And you do need to have a small soldering iron and solder, and the skills to use them. Your purchase gets you only the schematic and the components needed to construct this project. No Probes are included. This circuit is so simple, you could also build the complete circuit on a small Tie Strip, if you prefer. I can provide you with a 12V Relay instead of the piezo alarm if you wish. Please make such requests via the eBay message system. This is important because notes included with PayPal Payments are not always received before orders are shipped. Furthermore, ISP SPAM Blockers can prevent me from receiving your request prior to shipment of your purchase. Please Note: The parts you receive may differ somewhat in appearance or style from what is shown in the photo, but circuit function will not be affected.
